Telling Your Story Through Journal Prompts: What Celebrity Would You Take to Lunch?

Welcome back to our monthly journal prompt series, Telling Your Story Through Journal Prompts. This series exists because your story matters. Once we are gone, there is no one left to tell it, and while the people who love us are busy living their own lives, our memories, opinions, and experiences deserve to be captured somewhere. That is exactly what this series is for.

This month’s prompt is a fun one. No heavy lifting, no digging into the hard stuff. Just a lighthearted question designed to reveal a little bit about who you are and what you value in the people around you.

So grab your journal or open a blank document, and let’s get into it.

This Month’s Prompt

If you could go to lunch with any celebrity, who would it be, and why would you choose that person?

My Answer

I will be honest with you. There are not many celebrities I would care to share a meal with.

I do not follow the tabloids. I do not keep up with who is dating whom or which star just posted something controversial. To me, celebrities are people who are very good at their craft, whether that is acting, singing, or entertaining, and I absolutely enjoy what they do. I love a great TV show, a good movie, a live play. But being talented at your job does not automatically make someone more interesting or more worthy of my time over dinner than any other person I might meet.

So I do not idolize them. Never really have.

That said, if I had to choose? I have had the same answer for years, and I do not see it changing anytime soon.

I would choose Mike Rowe.

For anyone who does not know him, Mike Rowe is the host of the show Dirty Jobs, where he spent season after season rolling up his sleeves and working alongside everyday Americans in some of the most physically demanding, unglamorous, and genuinely fascinating jobs you can imagine. Septic tank technicians. Roadkill collectors. Sewer inspectors. He did it all, and he did it with humor, humility, and a genuine curiosity about the people he was working with. That is exactly why I would choose him.

Mike Rowe seems like a regular guy. Not a regular guy performing humility for the camera, but someone who actually sees value in the people that the rest of the world tends to overlook. He gets down in the dirt with them. He listens to them. He makes the whole thing about them, not about himself. That kind of character is rare, celebrity or not.

He is also genuinely funny, warm, and the kind of person you just know would make conversation feel easy and natural. I think lunch with Mike Rowe would feel less like meeting a celebrity and more like catching up with an old friend who just happens to have the most interesting job stories you have ever heard.

As for where we would go? I would take him to the Angus Barn right here in North Carolina. Great food, great atmosphere, and a place worthy of a good long conversation. Now, as far as the bill goes, Mike will be handling that. He makes considerably more money than I do, and I think that is only fair. 😄

Now It Is Your Turn

Here are a few questions to help get your journaling started:

There are no wrong answers here. This is your story, your voice, your journal. Have fun with it.

I would genuinely love to know who you would choose. Drop your answer in the comments below. I always enjoy hearing from you, and your answer might just surprise us both.

Happy writing!

P.S. Coming in at a very close second is Josh Gates from Destination Truth. He reminds me of my brother, he is absolutely hilarious, and I have a feeling lunch with him would involve at least one story that is completely unbelievable but one hundred percent true.
