Let’s continue on our stress relief journey today. I found an article several years ago called Karen Carnabucci’s GPS Guide On Relieving Stress. One of the first things in this list of 100 ways to relieve stress is “Chocolate Meditation.” I found instructions on how to meditate with chocolate on Psychology Today.
This should be fun. Stress relief through chocolate. I think almost everyone enjoys chocolate and the added plus of stress relief makes it even better. Before we get to chocolate meditation, let’s look at how chocolate can relieve stress.
According to Healthline “eating dark chocolate can change your brain wave frequency, providing benefits in memory improvement and stress reduction.”
Most say dark chocolate is the chocolate of choice to decrease stress. 70% Cacao or above is the recommended level of dark chocolate to get the desired stress-release effects. According to Very Well Mind, dark chocolate is the chocolate of choice, but milk chocolate does have some benefits when it comes to stress relief. Dark chocolate also contains less fat and sugar. Studies have shown that stress relief from eating chocolate was more common in women than men. Just so you know, white chocolate had zero effect on stress levels, according to this article.
Now that we have all the facts on chocolate and stress, let’s try chocolate meditation. The goal is to meditate while eating a bar of chocolate.
So just how much dark chocolate do you need to eat to reap the benefits of stress relief? Most studies have found that 1.4-1.5 ounces a day for two weeks usually does the trick. I would be hard-pressed to eat that much chocolate. I may get some small wrapped pieces of dark chocolate and have a piece while I read at night and see what happens.
Wishing you a low-stress day!
